ONE NIGHT ONLY! Jack Becker, A Man of Public Art

What does sustainable mean in the context of public art today?

Are you sustaining various ecosystems?

Are you sustaining your creative process?

Are you sustaining vitality of your work in new contexts?

Are you sustaining yourself through peanut butter and jelly sandwiches?

If you answered YES to any of the above, come hear Jack Becker discuss the various ways that sustainability relates to art (especially public art) at the Austin Museum of Art (823 Congress Ave.) on Tuesday, March 16, 6:30 – 8:30 pm.

Whether you’re in town for SXSW, an Austin-based artist, or just interested in digging into a meaty discussion, you shouldn’t miss this rare chance to talk “Sustainable Directions in Public Art” with Jack Becker. Bring your inquiring mind; We’ll bring the PB&J.

Jack Becker is founder and executive director of Forecast Public Art, an organization established in 1978 whose mission is to strengthen and advance the field of public art. As a public artist and program administrator, Jack specializes in projects that connect the ideas and energies of artists with the needs and opportunities of communities. He has organized more than 70 exhibitions, 50 publications, and numerous special events.

Jack received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, he also studied there at Washington University and Webster University as well as the Croydon College of Art and Design in Great Britain. Widely published in the field, he also serves as the executive editor of Public Art Review, the world’s leading journal devoted exclusively to the field of contemporary public art.

Public Art Review, published twice annually, is the world’s leading journal devoted exclusively to the field of contemporary public art. Each issue provides opinion, analysis, and criticism about the nature and trends in public art and brings inspiration to artists, architects, curators, city planners, students, educators, design professionals, program administrators, community leaders, writers, and more.
